Maxwell’s blazing knock powered Australia to another massive total of 241 for four in Adelaide in the second T20I against West Indies
In the second match of the three-game series at the Adelaide Oval, Glenn Maxwell, the Australian batter, achieved a remarkable milestone in T20I cricket. He emulated the historic feat of India captain Rohit Sharma by smashing an unbeaten 120 runs against the West Indies.Maxwell’s explosive innings not only propelled Australia to a massive total of 241 for four but also surpassed the previous record held by India’s Suryakumar Yadav in this format.
Jason Holder claimed the wicket of Josh Inglis in the initial stages of the match, while captain Mitchell Marsh and David Warner also made valuable contributions before getting dismissed. Maxwell wasted no time in finding his rhythm, consistently hitting boundaries and taking on every bowler. He reached the fifty-run milestone in a mere 25 deliveries.
Marcus Stoinis subsequently offered assistance to Maxwell during their partnership of 82 runs, although Maxwell was responsible for the majority of the scoring. Stoinis departed while trying to increase the run rate, but Maxwell found more effective support in Tim David as they concluded the innings in a stylish manner.
Maxwell achieved his fifth career century in T20I cricket during the fifth-wicket partnership, bringing him on par with Rohit on the all-time list. Nevertheless, the Australian batsman holds the record for the highest number of unbeaten centuries in this format (5), while Rohit follows closely with three such remarkable innings.
Maxwell, displaying his unbeatable performance with a remarkable score of 120, managed to surpass Suryakumar’s previous record for the highest score by a No. 4 batter in T20I cricket. Suryakumar had held the record with his impressive knock of 117 against England in 2022. Not only did Maxwell break this record, but he also achieved the highest score by any batter against the West Indies in this format. This feat surpassed the previous record of 119 set by Faf du Plessis of South Africa back in 2015.
Maxwell’s parents
Maxwell’s joy knew no bounds as he glanced towards the stands and spotted his parents, who had come to witness his remarkable performance. He described his innings as an enjoyable experience, emphasizing the delightful nature of the game. Reflecting on the quality of the pitch, he drew comparisons to the Big Bash tournament, where the wickets had proven to be exceptional.
The wicket at hand was particularly favorable, providing a reliable and consistent playing surface. Maxwell attributed his success to his quick hand speed, a technique he has always relied upon.
