Shubman Gill never looked comfortable at the crease right from the word go and was ultimately dismissed by Mark Wood for a nine-ball duck in the sixth over.

India cricket team star Shubman Gill, who recently enjoyed success by scoring a century in the Hyderabad (2nd) Test, was out for a 9-ball duck on Day 1 (Thursday, February 15) of the ongoing IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot, Gujarat.

India’s decision to bat first, following their victory in the toss, seemed to have slightly misfired as they lost early wickets and found themselves in a difficult position at 33/3. Jaiswal and Gill were dismissed cheaply, with Jaiswal falling to Wood and Gill to Hartley, while Patidar also followed suit, falling to Hartley. However, the elevation of experienced all-rounder Jadeja to the fifth position, coupled with Rohit’s aggressive batting, stabilized India’s innings, leading them to reach 93/3 at Lunch after 25 overs on Day 1.

Scores

Despite experiencing remarkable success across ODIs and T20Is in 2023, 24-year-old Gill has struggled to replicate that achievement in Tests. In his last 12 innings in the longest format, the newly-appointed Gujarat Titans skipper has managed only one fifty-plus score.

Shubman Gill’s scores in his last 12 Test innings: 13, 18, 6, 10, 29*, 2, 26, 23, 0, 34, 104, 0
